Gemotions

The phone call had been unexpected. A terse voice, a brief explanation, an apology. She hung up the phone and walked to the window, staring out at the rain-swept street. The apology was for something that happened when she was a child, something she'd buried deep. The air in the room felt heavy, and the silence seemed to thrum with a hidden energy. Her fingers fidgeted, picking at the edge of the windowsill. She wanted to scream, to lash out, but the words were trapped in her throat.
