The lawyer's words, still echoing in Leo's head, seemed to hang in the air like a discordant chord. His sister, Iris, inherited the family vineyard, a picturesque property that promised wealth and prestige. Leo, in stark contrast, was handed a single, tarnished silver locket. He kept turning it over and over in his hands.

He felt a sudden chill. The air inside the lawyer's office, once warm and stuffy, now seemed to have an unnatural coolness. He looked at Iris, and saw a smile. He knew she had wanted the vineyard.

The locket felt heavy, as though filled with something solid, even though he knew it was empty. He fumbled with the clasp, his fingers clumsy, and the locket snapped open. Inside, there was nothing but a single, dried flower, its petals brittle and brown.
