He felt a sudden, sharp pain in his chest, almost as if something had snapped. The listing, the photos of his childhood home, seemed to taunt him. The bright, sterile rooms felt cold, lifeless, alien.

He stared at the computer screen for what felt like an eternity, the details of the new renovations, the modern furniture, each a fresh wound. He felt like his own memories were being erased, replaced by an unfamiliar narrative.
