The silence in the small art studio was deafening. Finn stared at the two canvases propped side by side. He felt his hands begin to tremble. The painting next to his, executed by a new resident, depicted the same dream, the same imagery, the same color palette as his own, finished piece. He felt a creeping disquiet, a feeling like the world was shifting beneath his feet. He picked up his brush, his fingers fumbling with the bristles. He let out a shaky sigh and put it back down, unable to meet the newcomer’s gaze.
