Gemotions

The library card felt slippery in Olivia's hand. She flipped through the pages, her heart beating fast. The book she’d been writing, her life's work, was sitting on the desk of the writer across the room. She felt a tightening in her chest, like a physical weight pressing down. Her vision blurred, and the words on the page swam before her eyes. She wanted to yell, to scream, but she was completely unable to utter a single word. She felt frozen, trapped. Her eyes darted around the room, as if looking for an escape route that did not exist.
