The attic was a mausoleum of memories, the air thick with the scent of mothballs and forgotten hopes. Sarah found the list tucked inside a dusty photo album. “Learn to play the piano.” “Travel to Paris.” “Forgive your sister.” She read the final item twice, a wave of discomfort washing over her. She and her sister hadn't spoken in years. The list was a burden, a weight she hadn't anticipated.

She started cleaning, a way of grounding herself. But the more she dusted, the more restless she became. Each object she touched - a chipped teacup, a faded quilt - triggered a fresh wave of memories, each one tinged with a painful awareness of what was gone. She felt a growing prickle on her skin, an unsettling sensation that she couldn't explain.

She went outside, the vibrant colors of the garden oddly muted. She sat on the porch swing, the rhythmic creaks of the chains doing little to soothe her mounting disquiet. She had a sudden, overwhelming urge to call her sister, but her hand remained hovering over the phone.
