The sun was setting, casting long shadows across the living room. Emily found the list tucked inside a favorite book her father used to read. “Write a song.” “Plant a rose garden.” “Find love.” She’d known her father, but not like this. The intimacy of the list, the vulnerability it revealed, was deeply unsettling. The information, she found, was burdensome.

She went to the kitchen and tried to make tea. Her hands fumbled with the teabags, and she spilled water on the counter. She couldn't focus, her mind racing. The house was too quiet, and the memories of her father seemed to loom in every corner.

Later, she sat on the couch, unable to read or watch television. The silence was deafening, broken only by the occasional creak of the house. She felt a sudden, inexplicable urge to do something, anything, to break the spell of the list. She had a strange need to escape.
