David found himself staring at his clay sculptures, meticulously arranged on pedestals, a cruel parody of a professional exhibition. His breath hitched in his throat. He hadn't even told his wife about this work, the pieces that explored the darker aspects of his mind.

A knot formed in his stomach, twisting with each glance. He scanned the room, searching for a familiar face, a friendly ear. No one. Just strangers admiring his inner demons.

His vision blurred. He felt a sudden, profound desire to hide, to shrink into the shadows and vanish. The chatter of the attendees was a distant, mocking drone. He backed away slowly, as if pursued.
