"It's just a little space," the man said, his voice unusually loud, as he pointed towards the far corner of the yard. "Barely used. And think of the fresh vegetables!" The sun, normally a source of comfort, felt oppressive on her skin. She felt a rising tide of unease, a prickling sensation that traveled down her spine.

She kept her hands in her pockets, clenching her fists. The idea of anyone, even a polite neighbor, trampling over her personal space was unbearable. She found herself scanning the landscape, searching for an escape route, her heart beating a rapid, erratic rhythm. She just wanted him to leave.
