She found the leaflet on her doorstep, a glossy invitation to a “future investment opportunity.” Her hands trembled as she scanned the glossy pictures of stainless steel appliances and panoramic views. Her apartment – a cozy, cluttered haven filled with mismatched furniture and the lingering aroma of her cat, Mr. Whiskers – was suddenly just a stepping stone.

A tightness constricted her chest, making it difficult to breathe. She ran a hand through her hair, finding herself tugging at the strands. She couldn't stop picturing the hordes of people she would have to deal with to keep her place.
