The letter arrived alongside a pile of bills. He almost threw it away, mistaking it for junk mail. Something about the sleek font and the official-looking crest stopped him. His pulse quickened as he read the words, "conversion to condominiums." He felt a cold dread creep into his bones.

He re-read the letter, searching for some loophole, some error. The words remained the same. He felt a rising sense of panic. He ran his hand through his already messy hair.

He started to see his apartment differently, no longer as his home, but as a liability. He felt an intense need to do something, anything, to regain control. He got up and started cleaning, scrubbing surfaces with frantic energy.
