The house felt too large, the silence too loud. Her husband, Mark, had announced he was now a member of a Messianic Jewish community. She sat in the living room, the familiar furniture around her now seemingly alien.

She kept replaying the conversation in her mind, his calm explanations, his gentle smile. Her heart felt heavy, a dull ache that wouldn't subside.

She wandered through the house, touching objects, desperate to find something that would ground her. She stared out the window, at the setting sun, its colors washed out by an approaching storm.

She wrapped her arms around herself, as if trying to ward off a cold that had suddenly invaded her bones. She longed for the familiarity of the past, the comfortable routines they shared.

She sat on the sofa, clutching a throw pillow. The air felt thick, charged with unspoken words, with the weight of change. She felt utterly alone.
