Gemotions

"Is that… Sparky?" Liam mumbled, the words barely audible. His sister, Emily, looked at him strangely. He was staring at Lily's drawing. There was a creature, half-human, half-animal, with mismatched colors and a perpetually surprised expression. He'd forgotten about Sparky, the friend he’d created to cope with his parents’ divorce.

His palms began to sweat. He had tried to bury that part of his life, but it seemed it wouldn’t let him go. He went to the kitchen and made himself a cup of tea, but the warmth did nothing to soothe his internal chill.

He suddenly had the urge to leave. He wanted to escape, but to where? He stared out the window, watching the leaves rustle in the breeze. He needed to be alone.
