Gemotions

The constant hum of the city, the relentless push and pull of daily life, had left Thomas feeling… out of place. He felt like he was floating, untethered from reality. He needed to find something, anything, to bring him back to earth. The pawn shop seemed as good a place as any to find something.

He browsed, his eyes skimming over the tarnished treasures. And then, he saw it. A ring. A gold ring with a single, square-cut amethyst. He knew, he was sure, it was his grandmother's. He remembered the feel of it in his hands.

He felt a sudden and powerful urge to grab it, to hold it, to feel connected to something. He gestured at the ring, his voice catching in his throat. "Can I… can I look at that one?" He couldn't explain the sudden and overwhelming need.
