Gemotions

The hum of the server room was a low, persistent thrum that usually soothed Leo. Today, however, it amplified every anxious thought. He gestured for the new guy, Alex, to follow him, his footsteps echoing in the narrow corridor.

He took the lead, keeping his pace brisk, almost frantic. He tried to think, but his thoughts were jumbled, his mind racing. He went over and over the same things. He hoped Alex was listening.

"And that," he said, gesturing vaguely at the network cables, "is how it all connects." He wanted to ask Alex what he thought, but he was afraid.
