"There's been a mistake," the receptionist had said, her voice flat. Sarah felt a peculiar fluttering in her stomach, like a trapped bird. The information she'd received about her test results – the potential for serious illness – it was all wrong. Someone else’s reality had been imposed on hers.

The supermarket seemed overwhelming. The brightly lit aisles, the chatter of other shoppers, the smell of fresh produce – everything felt somehow…wrong. She clutched the cart handle with white knuckles, her breath shallow. The labels on the food items swam before her eyes.

Later, she found herself staring at the medications she took daily. They were meant for her, or so she thought. A wave of nausea washed over her. She dropped the pills, they scattered across the bathroom floor. She felt completely untethered.
