Gemotions

He stared at the blank screen, the cursor blinking, mocking his inability to focus. He had planned to work on the presentation, but his mind kept returning to their conversation last night. He could remember the sounds of the language, the way she had looked at him.

He had never questioned her. He trusted her. Now, his trust felt brittle. He rubbed his temples.

He stood up, unable to sit still. He walked to the window and looked out at the city below, a sea of flickering lights, all of them distant and incomprehensible. He went to the door and let himself out, the apartment suddenly too small, a box that trapped him.
