Gemotions

The wind was picking up, rattling the leaves against the windows. David found the card nestled amongst the usual bills and junk mail. He hesitated, his hand hovering over the mail slot. He didn't recognize the handwriting on the front. He felt a deep, pervasive sense of disquiet settle over him.

He slammed the door shut, ignoring the stack of mail in his hands. He went to the kitchen and grabbed a glass of water, then paced back into the living room. The card felt like a foreign object, a disturbance in his carefully constructed routine.

He finally opened it. Inside, it simply said, "Enjoy your day." He tossed the card onto the table. He felt a growing pressure in his chest, a sense of being hemmed in. He wanted to leave, to escape.
