Gemotions

The silence in the apartment was deafening, punctuated only by the rhythmic tick of the grandfather clock in the hallway. Sarah traced the outline of the framed photograph on her desk; a picture of her and David, her boyfriend, smiling on a beach. She felt a hollowness in her chest. She'd opened David's laptop last night, and saw the messages, a string of endearments directed at a "Jessica."

She kept replaying the scene in her mind, the shock, the denial, the creeping sense of betrayal. Her hands were ice cold, even though the apartment was warm. She’d always trusted David, they shared their lives.

She found herself walking towards the closet, staring at her clothes. She picked up a dress, her favourite, and then discarded it. She was filled with a sense of disconnectedness. Nothing seemed to fit anymore. She closed her eyes.
