Gemotions

The invitation was tucked between a stack of bills on Lisa's desk. She pushed it to the side, then pulled it back, then pushed it again. Her phone buzzed; a stream of notifications began. She couldn't focus. She felt the urge to throw everything off the desk, to let it all go.

She glanced at the photo on the invitation, the faces of her classmates, all looking so young and carefree. She felt a chill run down her spine. A sudden wave of nausea washed over her. She got up from the desk and walked to the window.

The air felt thick, heavy with the scent of late summer. The world seemed to be moving too fast, while she remained trapped. She felt a suffocating pressure, an inability to breathe. She wished she could just disappear.
