Gemotions

The car ride home felt interminable. David stared out the window, the familiar landscape blurring into an indistinguishable mass of green and brown. The radio was playing, but the music registered as a meaningless drone. He felt disconnected, as if the world around him was somehow distant.

His fingers drummed a nervous tattoo against his thigh. He felt a profound sense of…displacement. Each bump in the road sent a jolt of anxiety through him. At the next stop light, he saw his reflection in the window. He looked older, somehow changed. He closed his eyes, willing the feeling to pass, but the emptiness remained.
