Gemotions

The weight room smelled of iron and exertion, but for Jake, the familiar scent was now tainted. He sat on the bench, staring at the barbell. He couldn't bring himself to lift it. His arms felt leaden, his muscles strangely unresponsive. The routine that once provided solace and purpose now felt like a burden.

He watched the other athletes, their movements fluid and confident. He felt a pang of envy, a sharp sting of…something. The noise, the clanging of weights, the grunts of effort – all seemed to intensify the turmoil within him. He felt as if he was watching them from behind a thick pane of glass, separated from the camaraderie and the shared purpose.
