The world was spinning. It had been, ever since the phone call from the scholarship committee. Sarah found herself staring at the intricate patterns on the ceiling of her cramped apartment. A headache was blooming behind her eyes, throbbing in time with the persistent pulse in her wrist.

She kept replaying the conversation in her head, the polite voice, the apologetic tone. It was all a mix-up. The scholarship she'd been so grateful for, the one that had allowed her to escape her previous life, wasn’t hers. She felt something tightening around her, like a snake was coiling around her chest. She needed to get out, away from the walls that were closing in.
