He stared at the television screen, dumbfounded. The commercial was slick, polished, the actors perfect. And then the song started. It was “Sunrise Serenade,” his little-known instrumental piece, now backing a commercial for dog food. James felt a growing unease.

His hands shook as he reached for the remote, wanting to mute it, to erase it from existence. He had never given permission. He didn’t know how this had happened. He felt like his private space had been invaded. His breath quickened. He felt a sudden, irrational urge to smash something.
