"No," Leo muttered, staring at the email. It felt like a punch to the gut. His hands were clammy, and he felt a strange pressure behind his eyes. He crumpled the paper in his fist, crushing the neat font into illegible lines. He wanted to scream. He wanted to disappear. He walked out of his office, abandoning the manuscript and his computer. The fluorescent lights of the hallway seemed to flicker menacingly. He found himself walking aimlessly, not knowing where he was going. He craved the open air.
