Gemotions

"Mom?" Liam called out, his voice a little too loud in the sudden quiet of the living room. The draft letter, a faded document from his grandmother, lay in his hands. He'd never known her to question her life. He felt a tremor in his fingers as he held the paper.

He rubbed his eyes, the words blurring slightly. He felt a need to do something, anything, to break this mood. He flipped through the channels on the television, not seeing anything, the images flickering across his eyes.

He needed space. He shoved the letter into his pocket, his hand clenching around it. He grabbed his keys and left, the slam of the door punctuating the stillness.
