Gemotions

The dusty attic was thick with the scent of mothballs and forgotten memories. Henry, always the pragmatist, was focused on dividing the tangible assets: the furniture, the china, the jewelry. Sarah, ever the dreamer, drifted through the space, picking up trinkets and sighing.

They'd found their parents' wills. Henry received the deeds to the family business, a failing hardware store. Sarah, however, received a collection of handwritten journals, bound in faded velvet.

As Sarah started reading, a slow, unfamiliar thrumming began in her chest. The journals detailed a hidden life, a world of secret societies and covert missions, all meticulously documented by their mother, who she had known as a librarian. Sarah knew she had to leave.

Henry looked up, a scowl on his face. “Are you even listening? This business is a disaster.” Sarah looked at him and said, "I have to go."
