"Are you alright, Sarah?" her husband asked, his voice laced with concern. She’d been staring at the wall for a full ten minutes, a cold cup of tea forgotten on the coffee table.

“Fine,” she replied, though her voice wavered. The realtor hadn't mentioned the old case file, the one that detailed a robbery gone wrong, the victim found in the kitchen. She felt like her own kitchen, with its bright, sunny windows, was suddenly a stage for a forgotten play.

She rubbed her arms, a chill she couldn't explain clinging to her. She thought about cancelling her dinner guests. The thought of laughter and conversation within these walls now felt… wrong. She looked at her husband and felt a sudden longing for a vacation, a place completely disconnected from this house.
