He stared at the words, barely able to make them out. The penmanship, familiar yet utterly alien. Daniel had unearthed the list in the depths of a dusty old trunk. Sail around the world. Write a book. Learn to tango. The blood seemed to drain from his face.

The world seemed to wobble around him. He felt like he'd been given a puzzle with all the pieces missing. The man he knew was revealed to be a phantom. He stood up abruptly, the room tilting.

He walked outside, heedless of the rain, the drops plastering his hair to his forehead. He started walking, his destination unknown. His pace quickened. He walked until his legs ached, the feeling of the pavement beneath his feet the only thing grounding him.
