He had found the manuscript hidden in the attic, tucked away amongst old boxes and forgotten memories. It was a novel about their relationship, but it felt… distorted. The author, his girlfriend, Emily, had molded their shared experiences into something else entirely. The characters, though ostensibly based on them, were exaggerated, theatrical. He felt a creeping discomfort.

He found himself staring out the window, the familiar view of the city now blurred, almost unrecognizable. His jaw clenched. He felt a strange unease that had him pacing the floor, replaying memories, questioning his perception of their life together.

He picked up the phone, wanting to call her, but found himself hesitating, his hand hovering over the dial pad.
