Gemotions

The shovel bit into the earth with a resounding thud. It was a clear, crisp autumn day, and the leaves swirled around as Michael dug. He was looking for buried treasure, but he came across a metal box instead. The discovery made his heart jump. A feeling of disquiet settled in his chest.

The box was easy to lift. It was light. Inside, a collection of knick-knacks and trinkets stared back at him. A small, tarnished silver locket, a dried-up lipstick tube, and a key, which he didn’t recognize. He ran a hand over his face.

He tried to recall any memory that might tie him to the objects. Nothing. He paced. He looked at the items again and again. An oppressive silence filled the room. Then, he put the box back in the hole, and filled it with dirt. He wanted it all to be gone.
