Gemotions

The old house was slated for demolition. Before the wrecking ball came, David, the new owner, decided to walk through one last time. In the overgrown backyard, he found it: a metal container, buried near the ancient oak tree. His breathing became shallow. He was not looking for anything.

The box held a collection of letters. Each one, addressed to him, from an unknown sender. The handwriting was elegant, unfamiliar. He scanned the first few lines, descriptions of a life he did not recognize. He couldn't make any sense of it.

He sat on a rotting wooden chair, the letters scattered around him. The air seemed to thicken, pressing down on him. He felt… adrift. He quickly shut the box, and left. He couldn’t stay there. He was suddenly overwhelmed, and the feeling was strong.
