Gemotions

The church bells were a mocking chorus, their cheerful chime a cruel contrast to the bleakness that had invaded David's heart. His sister, Emily, had found solace in Islam, a faith so different from their upbringing. He sat rigid in his pew, ignoring the hymns, the words of the sermon seeming to bounce off him.

He felt a tightness in his chest, a sensation of being trapped. The stained-glass windows, usually a source of beauty, now seemed to imprison him. He picked at a loose thread on his jacket, an unconscious act of fidgeting. He felt so alone, adrift in a sea of his own confusion.

After the service, he stumbled out into the sunlight, his eyes stinging. The familiar streets felt alien, each step a heavy weight. He couldn't shake the feeling that he was losing her, that a vital connection was slipping away.
