Gemotions

“No way,” I mumbled, the words catching in my throat. I stood, clutching the notice like a lifeline, my knuckles white. The proposed fence would change everything.

My palms were sweating, and my vision swam. I felt trapped, enclosed. The thought of losing the feeling of spaciousness I cherished, was a blow.

I squeezed my eyes shut, trying to picture my yard without the fence, but the image flickered and fragmented. I let out a shaky breath, then quickly turned to look out the window.
