Gemotions

John sat frozen on his front porch swing, the fence proposal lying crumpled on the wooden planks beside him. The breeze, which usually soothed him, felt cold and biting against his skin. He couldn't shake off the feeling of being wronged.

He picked at a loose splinter on the swing arm. He felt a sharp, persistent ache in his stomach. The thought of the encroaching barrier filled him with a potent sense of loss.

He slumped lower, the swing creaking with his weight. He felt utterly drained.
