"This is ridiculous!" David’s voice, sharp and laced with frustration, cut through the announcement about the further delay. He slammed his fist on the counter, the force making the plastic registration desk tremble. He'd been looking forward to seeing his daughter's graduation. Now, because of a mechanical fault, the ceremony was almost certainly over. The images of her, beaming in her cap and gown, flickered tauntingly in his mind. He ran a hand through his already disheveled hair, feeling a flush creep up his neck. A sigh escaped him, a sound filled with profound disappointment.
