"Where is she?" Liam’s voice was hoarse as he asked the secretary. He had discovered a simple message on the notice board that read, "Gone. Good luck." He was devastated. Dr. Ramirez, his research supervisor, had simply vanished, leaving behind their ongoing project and his entire future. The world suddenly felt out of focus.

He sat in the waiting room, his hands clasped tightly together. The sterile environment, usually a place of hope and anticipation, now felt oppressive. He stared at the magazines, their colorful covers a garish contrast to his internal turmoil. He felt a growing sense of panic, the air thick with unspoken questions.

He stood up suddenly and walked out of the building.
