"So, you're telling me you… you *stock* shelves?" Ben stammered, his voice tight. Sarah, his friend of ten years, had always regaled him with tales of her glamorous fashion design career. He'd envisioned her in chic studios, sketching with a flourish, not… stacking cans of soup in the grocery store. The air seemed to thicken, making it difficult to breathe. He ran a hand through his hair, a gesture he often did when he was uncomfortable or disoriented. He needed to leave, to get away from this sudden, unwelcome revelation.
