"Well, this is just great," Leo muttered under his breath, kicking at a stray paperclip on the polished floor. The sterile environment of the Marketing department felt alien after years in the Research lab. His knuckles were white as he gripped his coffee, the bitter taste doing little to soothe the knot in his stomach.

The fluorescent lights hummed overhead, a constant, irritating drone. He felt a tremor of frustration as he considered the endless spreadsheets and reports that now awaited him. He ran a hand through his hair, a nervous gesture he usually avoided.

The projects they planned here seemed superficial. He missed the deep dives into data, the thrill of discovery. He missed the intellectual stimulation, the freedom to experiment. He felt a deep ache in his bones, a feeling of displacement he couldn't shake.
