Gemotions

The party was supposed to be a celebration of their anniversary. Instead, the air in the crowded living room felt thick with unspoken feelings. Every time he spoke to her family in her language, a fresh wave of…something…washed over her.

She excused herself and went outside, the cold night air a welcome relief. The low murmur of conversation and laughter from inside felt distant, mocking. She leaned against the brick wall, arms crossed, trying to control the tremor in her hands.

He followed her out, his face etched with concern. "What's wrong, mi amor?" The words, meant to be sweet, grated against her. She just shook her head, unable to speak. The hurt was a heavy stone in her chest.
