He stared at the announcement on the diner's website, the words blurring slightly. It was a place that had always been a constant in his life. He felt the tightness in his chest, a sensation that made it difficult to breathe. The news felt like a betrayal.

He remembered the familiar scent of coffee and sizzling bacon, the way the sunlight illuminated the greasy countertops, the comforting banter of the waitresses. Where would he go for his morning coffee now?

He slumped back in his chair, his shoulders slumping. He rubbed his temples, a futile attempt to alleviate the ache that had settled there. He needed to get out, to walk, to do anything but sit here and dwell on it.
