Gemotions

He stared at the eviction notice, the harsh words blurring before his eyes. The weight of his failures was almost unbearable. He had little money. The yard sale was a long shot, but he was hoping for something… anything. Then he saw it. The bear. It was a faded version of the bear he had as a child.

He felt the familiar thrum of his pulse in his ears. He asked, his voice rough. The woman was eager to get rid of it.

Back in his car, he held the bear against his chest. He felt like a boy again, small, helpless, and afraid.

He drove to the beach, the waves providing a soundtrack to his misery. He sat on the sand, the bear beside him, watching the sun disappear.
