Rain lashed against the attic window, mirroring the tempest inside Leo. He'd envisioned a peaceful evening sorting through his new house, a fresh start. Now, a mountain of junk loomed.

He ran a hand through his hair, tugging at the strands, a frustrated gesture he didn’t realize he was making. A mildewed trunk sat in the corner, its leather cracked and peeling. He kicked it, just a little, the wood groaning in protest.

"Seriously?" he growled, the word a low rumble in his throat. He’d meticulously cleaned every room, painted every wall, only to find this. He took a deep breath, trying to calm the racing beat of his heart.

He grabbed his coat, ignoring the items that the previous owners had left behind. He went outside into the stormy night.
