The silence in the new house was oppressive. Mark paced the length of the kitchen, the hardwood floorboards creaking under his weight. He’d lost the deal. The one he needed. He rubbed at his temples, the pressure building, a headache threatening to erupt. Every decision he had made had been a failure. He had walked through the house repeatedly, trying to ignore the constant churning in his stomach, and then he noticed a small, almost invisible crack in the wall behind the bookshelf. He ran his hand over the books, and with a small click, he found a passage to a hidden room.
