He’d avoided the apartment all day, wandering aimlessly. Finally, he had succumbed and come back. The silence in the flat was unnerving. He’d needed to be somewhere safe, somewhere quiet. He sat on the floor, surrounded by the debris of his life, and reached for a dog-eared copy of *One Hundred Years of Solitude*, a book he'd always found strangely comforting.

Between the pages, he found a folded map, drawn in pencil. It depicted a winding path, leading to a place marked with a single X. Beneath it, a single phrase was written: “Find your own way.” He felt a tightening in his chest, a sensation of being both lost and adrift. He was certain that was exactly what he was trying to do.
