The house felt too big, too silent, the space amplifying the ache within. She found herself in the kitchen, staring at the chipped teacup on the counter, the one her grandmother had always used. Her sister, Lily, was outside, inspecting the garden, her face lit with a smile. It was easy for her.

She picked up the cup, her fingers tracing the faded floral pattern. Her breath hitched. The silence seemed to press in on her, suffocating. She couldn’t stay here. Not like this.

She set the cup back down, the delicate clink echoing in the room. She needed to leave, to get away.
