The doctor's words still echoed in his head, a crushing weight. His wife’s diagnosis had been bleak. David felt the ground shift beneath him.

He was walking through the hospital parking lot when he saw it, half-hidden beneath a parked car. He bent down and retrieved the wallet.

He opened it, and saw a substantial sum of money. A small part of him, almost selfishly, considered the possibilities. The potential to ease his life's burdens.

He swallowed hard. His face felt hot, and his hands were clammy. He closed his eyes for a moment, the image of his wife's face filling his mind. The weight of responsibility bore down on him.
