The coffee cup trembled in Amelia's grasp, sloshing lukewarm liquid over her fingers. The announcement, delivered in a bland, impersonal email, had knocked the wind out of her. Her future, once so clear and bright, now seemed shrouded in an impenetrable fog. She pushed the email aside, her hand shaking. Her carefully laid plans – the study abroad program, the summer internship – now felt like unattainable dreams. She closed her eyes, fighting back the sting of unshed tears.
