The silence in the apartment felt deafening. Mark had arranged a camping trip, a weekend getaway with his closest friends. Then, the announcement: a huge concert, a massive event, also happening on his birthday weekend.

He ran a hand through his hair, the gesture conveying his utter helplessness. His meticulously planned itinerary seemed to unravel before his eyes. All the excitement he'd felt previously had evaporated, replaced by a hollow ache.

He stared out the window, the image of friends enjoying themselves at the concert filling his mind. A deep breath caught in his throat. He sat down heavily in a chair, his shoulders slumped, the weight of his disappointment almost unbearable.
