The world felt muted to Chloe. The bright sunlight that usually invigorated her seemed dull, the cheerful chirping of birds grating on her nerves. She clutched the crumpled email in her hand, the words – “We have a match” – burning into her memory. A half-brother. A consequence of her father's past indiscretions.

She retreated to her garden, a place of solace and tranquility. Today, it felt like a cage. She knelt, her fingers digging into the cool earth, as if trying to ground herself. But the earth offered no comfort, just a reflection of the turmoil within her.

Tears welled in her eyes, blurring the vibrant colors of the flowers. Her lips trembled as she bit the inside of her cheek.
